DMG Steelworkers - Project Management System
DMG Steelworkers is a well establish steel fabrication and erection company with a forward looking managment team. Having met Steve Smith of Bitopia at a St Helens Chamber event Malcolm Geddis, Managing Director of DMG arranged for Bitopia to start supporting their IT systems.
Having supported DMG's network and PCs for over a year Bitopia entered talks to create a bespoke database system to manage the larger projects that DMG undertake. DMG were aware of the considerable costs that can be associated with developing bespoke software systems and were very kean to ensure that the costs of a bespoke solution from Bitopia did not spiral out of control. Bitopia's solution was to build the bare bones of a database system that would manage DMG's most essential processes and that could be easily extended to add new functionality as and when the need arose.
The initial system was built and ready to use within just a few weeks. DMG staff were trained on the new system but it took a few months before DMG staff cultures changed and staff really started to make good use of the system. At this point DMG discussed additional requirements of the system with Bitopia and Bitopia duely obliged.
DMG continues to request small changes and improvements to the Project Management System comfortable that Bitopia will give an accurate estimate for the required development work before completing it efficiently, maintaining good communications with DMG throughout.
The system has now evolved into a very powerful business system and the cost has been spread over many months benefiting both DMG and Bitopia cashflow.
