Bitopia Launch Anti-Spam Service

In response to customer demand, Bitopia has launched its own e-mail anti-spam service. Until now Bitopia has been helping customers to deal with the menace of unsolicited e-mail (spam) using the McAfee Secure Messaging Service (SPAM Filter). However, as our portfolio of security customers has grown, the McAfee Secure Messaging Service has become increasingly difficult to manage.

With the help of our friends at Bell Micro we have now commissioned an enterprise level Barracuda Spam Firewall appliance that is capable of supporting up to 5,000 mailboxes across 500 domains.

Bitopia MD Steven Smith said "Our investment in the Barracuda SPAM Firewall reaffirms Bitopia's ongoing committment to deliver tangible benefits to our customers. For just £2 per month we can now provide industry leading e-mail filtering services that make a real difference to businesses. The costs of allowing users to deal with SPAM themselves can very quickly add up to hundreds and even thousands of pounds in lost productivity. Taking a typical SME with 15 email users as an example, assuming an average of 20 unwanted messages per day per user and estimating that each person will take on average 15 seconds to deal with each message; In one month alone this will result in over 25 hours of lost productivity. In financial terms, assuming an average staff salary of £18k per annum, the business cost of spam in this case is easily in excess of £250 per month. This doesn't even take into account the less tangible costs of SPAM such as increased server loading, bandwidth consumption, security and virus problems as well as displaying of offensive messages on users terminals. By contrast our new anti-spam service would cost the same company just £30 per month eliminating the other negative effects of SPAM in the process."

Customers currently using the McAfee Secure Messaging Service will be offered a free migration to the Barracuda system when their existing suscriptions are due to expire.
